Help!!!! My 5 mths old is on gina ford schedule. She has been really good for the past 5 months. Its like the second I put her down in cot, she closed her eyes and out. But since last week, as soon as i put her down in cot, she screams out loud until i pick her up. After another 5mins of cuddling, i put her down again, then she cries abit then sleep.
This change is so sudden. I am sure she is not hungry or too cold/hot. What is happening?? What should i do? Help!!!

Have you been away during the day?
Could your baby have an ear infection so lying down hurts?
Could it be teething?
Letting a baby cry to sleep is rather contrary to mother's instinct. If you or your husband were crying we would hope that our partner would respond to our cries. Keep giving love and you will get through this. Good luck and this too shall pass.

Is this only at night? Are you feeding her beforehand and perhaps it could be a little wind?

tks for your advice. She seems to be back to her normal self now. I just give her a little bit longer cuddle before i put her down (still awake). It seems to work...Fingers crossed :)

she is learning new things always... by you going away she feels that you are leaving her. longer cuddle and gentle talk to assure her will help. my baby was the same too but now he is 9 months, he needs a little more time to fall asleep and wants me to be there longer for him. we got to change too to adapt to their changes.

today she screamed again when i put her down in cot even though i did give her longer cuddle or gentle talk/sing. Looks like she suddenly doesn't like her room (dark)! I finally put her in the swing chair in the lounge (definitely not dark) and within 5 mins she fell asleep. She has always slept in her cot no problem before. She never needed to be rocked or any other wrong habits. What is happening? Advice needed. Tks

and she just woke up in the swing chair after only 15 mins nap. She used to always nap in her cot in her dark room for 45 mins. She is only just 5 months old, it's not so possible that she at this age wants to cut down this morning nap, right???

How is she getting on Well2? no, she is not ready to cut down the a.m nap yet but it could be she wants it shorter. My friend's girl only took 5-10 minutes nap, 2-3 times aday. If she can pass 1/2 hour, her mom will shout for joy from the top of her roof! My baby at one point sleep about 45 minutes at his a.m nap, i thought that was it but he went back to 1.5 hour nap after a week. now he is 9 months, he nap 2.5 hours in the a.m and 15-20 minutes nap in the late afternoon and some days, dont at all. He used to nap 1.5 in the a.m and 1.5 in the afternoon. Babies do change their time table, especially when they are learning to turn, sit, craw and for sure, when they walk!

Hi PDNS, i bought some books to read and realized that it might be becos of us hiring a new maid weeks ago and let the new maid to try to put her to bed for a few days. The maid didn't really know when bb was ready to be put down and her pre-bedtime activities etc. So bb got confused and new maid kept comforting her by doing alot of stuff that i don't normally do to bb..e.g. picking her up again and rock..etc. Then i would go in to stop her and settle bb back to sleep myself. Since then bb developed some wrong assoications i guess.
Anyway, Since bb only had wrong habits for just a week so it's pretty easy for her to go back to her good habits. I tried Ferber's progressive something something method (dont' remember what its called) combine w Babywhisper's signs + gina ford routine to help her. It works almost immediately for bb. BB fully awake when put down and doesn't fuss or cry even abit now. And you are right, she is not ready to cut down the naps yet. She is now sleeping the full 45mins at am and 2hrs at pm. (I hate to say good things about bb, cos bb always turn totally opposite afterwards, so i should say SHE IS BAD BAD SLEEPER now..just in case heehee) Fingers crossed she will stay good like that...tks.
