Mini is BMW and should be OK because they are quite popular now...however safety for these cars are pretty average.

So Jap cars are the way to go? I have several in mind:
1) Toyota RAV-4
2) Honda CR-V
3) Toyota Corolla
4) Mazda 3 4DR Sports
5) Hyundai Sante Fe
6) Subaru Forrester 2.5 XT
In your opinion, which one is the best option in terms of the following criteria:
1) Safety;
2) Maintenance cost;
3) Insurance;
4) Suitability for HK roads
What other criteria are important?
I have obtained my driver's licence from UK but I haven't driven since I got it (back in 1997) so I'll have to learn from scratch. You may as well consider that I have close to 0 experience in driving.

we have toyota Rav 4 and lots of friends have the CR V depends on whether you need to transport children too. I am very poor at parking but happy with Toyota RAV 4 which I find nippy and comfortable. Also like being up at a height especially around some of the bendy cliff faced roads on the southside!

Thanks! altaf...in terms of maintenance cost for RAV4, is it high? Its parts, service fee, etc.? Does it break down often? Would you recommend the salesperson who sold you your RAV4?
