our 8 week old screams when is tired - for his morning nap we put him in the stroller and take the dog out at the same time, lunch nap he screams for about 10-15 mins before settling and afternoon nap we are generally out so he is sleeping in stroller or baby bjorn - however when we try to put him to bed at 7 - having had bath massage and milk and a wind he will sleep from having a full tummy for about 20 mins and then wake up screaming, we then burp him again and try more milk but generally none of this works-and he tends to scream from 7.30 to about 9.30-10 -sometimes later.... any tips...nothing seems to console him- he goesbright red and stops beathing and just works him self up sooo much....any ideas are most welcome!!! ive heard 3 months is the majic time that they can grow out of this type of problem but thats another 4+ weeks away...ahhh!!

Hi qwerty123, I don't profess to be any kind of expert and certainly all babies are very different, but here is what I found works best for me. I have a 4 month old and I have found that ensuring he gets plenty of playtime during the day to tire him out (but not to the point of over-tiredness) and I don't let his afternoon nap go for too long, otherwise it can mean he won't going to sleep in the evening. I try to make sure he is up 1.5-2 hours before bedtime so he has plenty of time to tire himself out before bed! If he cries I just keep going back in every 5 mins to reassure him (rock, pat, cuddle) and if after about half an hour he won't sleep, I give him another breastfeed which always seems to calm him to sleep. However if you don't breastfeed this obviously isn't an option for you. Also, I found a dummy (pacifier) works on occasion, I was reluctant to use it at first but sometimes they really are worth their weight in gold, especially if you are getting to the end of your tether.

Also with regard to the screaming, my bub will do the same on occasion, go bright red and sweaty and get himself so worked up he chokes and splutters, which seems to make him even madder! It used to concern me but I realised it's OK and he's not going to choke himself. I just pick him up and give him a pat on the back if he's really having a good old splutter.

Their sleeping habits seem to change all the time...just when you think you have it sussed out they decide to do something completely different!
