Hi
I agree with the above reply. Don't stress about toilet training, it will happen when she is ready. 18 months is very young to be toilet trained.
This is how I trained my son at 30 months.
I talked about what happens in the toilet and in his diaper a lot etc. and he was usually in the toilet with me and his dad.
At 20 months I tried to train him before the baby arrived but he wans't ready. I know he would have regressed anyway but he was showing some ready signs.
I started by spending a few days at home while he played with no pants on and I played right beside him with the very basic potty beside us as well. I gave him lots to drink and when he started to pee I told him what he was doing and put him on the potty really quickly. Yes there were lots of accidents but doing this for a few days helped him learn what was supposed to go in the toilet.
I only did this for a few days and he was only using the toilet when I put him on it and wasn't concerned that he would pee on the floor etc. I didn't do much active training for the next 4 months or so after the baby arrived but I always had the potty in the bathroom and occasionally asked him if he wanted to use it. I also started putting his poo from the diaper into the toilet and he helped me flush. At about 26 months he went to daycare one day a week (in Australia) and I sent him in toilet training underpants and they took him to the toilet often. He didn't catch on as fast as the other kids so we stopped this when he was having several accidents a day. But I often kept him in the toilet training pants at home. He started using the potty spontaneously if I left him with no pants on and the potty in the same room as him. This went on for a while. I never actively tried to train him after this but I did by big boy jocks with diggers on them when I thought he might be ready for them. He tried them but still didn't seem concerned about being wet. We kept them in his drawer and he looked at them every once in a while.
Then one day he asked to wear them to bed and I said he could wear them tomorrow. He woke up the next day, asked for the jocks and has been in them ever since. He used diapers when we went out for a few weeks then I just started to risk it and take clothes with me. He had several accidents but is now taking himself to the toilet. I never used pull ups and rarely used nappies once he started noticing he was going pee etc becuase this seemed to set him back. We have several friends of the same age and they were all toilet trained around the same time.
opps, this was a bit long but I thought I woud share how I did it. It was very low stress and he did do it when he was ready. He still has occassional accidents becuase he forgets and I know this could happen for a while.
oh- yes, I also did cheer and jump around when he used the potty.
good luck
