1st month weaning leads to reduction in milk intake?

hi..after my bub turns 6 months old, i started introducing solid, following Gina Ford's routine. The 1st month of solid, according to Gina Ford, is really taster (rather than filler). however, my bub starts taking less milk. now he takes 70-100 in the day, and 130 at nite. previously he can take 130-150 in the day and 200 at nite.

is this because of introduction of solid? or some other reasons? i m thinking to change the teats size, not sure whether it will work, and i also happen to change formula milk previously from S26 to Nestle Nan HA1. I am pretty sure i won't go back to S26 anymore as it gave my bub constipation.

pls advice.

I am not sure whether what I am doing is right but here is our routine. Previously my baby had formula 5 times a day 180ml each time. Now that he is 6,5 months old and eating solids well, I reduced his milk intake. He still has 180ml 3 times a day (6am, 1pm and 9pm); he has 60g of rice cereal followed by 120ml of milk for the second breakfast at 10am; he eats 60g of vegetable puree followed by 120ml of milk in the afternoon at around 5pm. It works well for him but I am worried that I give him too much. Books and Internet don’t help as everywhere the information differs…

hi WWB, is you again :-) So strange we experience the same problem again. My bb is almost 6 months and i started giving her a little bit of solid last week. Only maybe 1 teaspoon after milk. She also takes less and less milk now. She used to be able to take 170mls day/240mls night in one go. Now she always need 2 -3 breaks and end up only having about 100-120mls day/ 160mls night. I did some research and some ppl say its probably due to teething as bb feel uncomfortable when sucking...I really don't know....My BB is also on gina ford and having Aptamil. I might try level 3 teats as well, see if it helps....

Hello Well2, hey..it's great comfort to know someone who is going thru same thing as me! Yes, i remeber you from my thread that our bubs start to wake up earlier! I also started my bub with solid after he turns 6 months! he is very much ready for solid as he takes it happily! ok...my bub's front two teeth are coming out! so, that probably makes him feel uncomfortable in sucking! ok...at least m not so worry about it anymore. by the way, according to gina ford, carror is introduced duirng the 1st month. my bub reacted badly to that. he threw up milk and carrot about half hour to 2 hours after having carrot. did you experience that?

does your bub still wake up at midnite to be feed? last nite, i tried cutting out the 1.30am feed, and i fed him at 6.15am this morning. he takes in more (naturally). he finished 130ml. and another 40ml at 7.30am (top up). and drank well at 11.30am and 2.30pm. hopefully this continues....

Hi WWB, then your bub probably just feels uncomfy when sucking the bottle. I don't see my bub has any teeth coming out yet. So i am still not sure why she is cutting down milk. Anyway, she doesn't have any problems with carrot (although i myself hate carrot heehee). So far she is taking everything i introduce happily. I think she likes solids better than her milk. As soon as i sit her in her chair, she already opens her mouth and she bangs the table when she wants more! I am going to give her sweet potato tmr.

About the midnite feed- My bub has been sleeping til 7:30am from 11pm dreamfeed since 11 weeks old. And she is now not taking much (30-70mls) at 11pm so i think she doesn't really need it but we will keep it until she reaches 6 months & 3 meals established as Gina ford suggested.
