the last time i visited h k i saw something on tv about "couch surfing". the people intervied "travelors" and Hosts/hostesses said it is much better for traveling to h k and other places in the world.
but how does it work? how does a travelor and or host/hostess take part in couch surfing? is there a website or do travel agencies get involved?

It's a non-profit website: http://www.couchsurfing.com
No travel agencies involved.

i just tried "couchsurfing.com" and figured if that wasn't an actual websit, my default search engine would find what i am lookin for. but what da ya know "couchsurfing.com" is the website.

they claim to be "non-profit" but you have to make a donation of $25US in order to be "verified". i guess if it is a oo ervice than $25 isn't so much.

Well, just don't bother with the verification. It's not a must to use the website.

We have been part of the "couchsurfing project" for 5 months now and having had many people surf our couch here in HK and then recently surfed the couches of others in Canada (2 adults + 3yr old) I highly recommend it as a great way to meet locals and learn about a city.
Have fun, its a friendly community, you can also try hospitalityclub.org

I participated in CouchSurfing when I lived in Sao Paulo, Brazil, staying for two weeks with a host while he helped find an apartment for me. Many of the friends I made there were through CS. Now that I'm living in HK, I've hosted a couple of times, showed a few visitors around the city, and made some new friends. I like it because the type of people who would join such a "project" are more on the same wavelength as me.
