I agree with D-Man about Kelly motors. I used to use my regular insurance broker for my bike insurance until Kelly got me a policy for less than half of what I was paying.

the next question is regarding which cover to choose. as i will be buying a "desirable" sportsbike, how common is theft. i imagine its quite high if the bike is parked on the road? with secure parking being the price it is, would it be better to pay $3000 per month to park a bike or pay almost triple that on fully comp insurance and park it on the road?

also, motorcycle security...

being fully aware of how HK locals like to exagerate the gravity and drama of a situation, i was wondering if there is any point in using immobilisers and ground anchors in a rented parking space. i have heard "tales" of frustrated thieves deciding to burn the vehicle just to spite the owner. Is there any truth to this and should i invest in security.

Why is vehicle crime tolerated by police and owners to such levels here. Even London was not this bad. LOL.

It is very rare in HK to be able to cover a bike on a fully comp basis - almost all policies are Third Party Only.

Bike thefts have increased quite dramitically here since the engine size restriction has been removed in markets like Taiwan, they just nick them from here, and send the over there. I think there is a monthly list on the police department website that has a list of all the bikes stolen in the previous month, along with the location they were nicked from.

late model sportsbikes do tend to get stolen a lot... don;t even think about parking on the street... and bike parking won't set you back 3,000 quid unless you plan on renting a room at the 4 seasons for your bike... HKD 500 is closer to what you'd actually wind up paying...

use a chain to secure the vehicle to a fixed structure as an added security.... most chain and lock sets can be stored under your seat...

i've had a good experience with kwiksure, and they do have a comp policy (quite expensive though... and you'd rather just be careful with your bike... receiving reimbursement for your loss is a bonus, but why would you want to risk the loss in the first place?)...

best of luck and ride safe...

Most common theft I heard is the Honda CB400. Most uncommon: any cruiser or scooter.

firstly, nothing wrong with Honda. my first was the RVF an i challenge you to find a better bike of the same cc and price that starts even in the winter. secondly, no i won't be getting another as i am tempted by the strange and new afforability of Ducati'. they are red and loud and i am weak..

well... can't disagree about that... there's not a lot that's wrong with the hondas... it's that they're so dull and boring... the lowest common deniminator of every class they compete in... good for everything and great for nothing at all...

now the duc on the other hand... there's a whole bunch of them on sale at ibike.com...
