Use vinegar and water or baking soda and water.

I second the vinegar and water. Sprikle bicarb/baking soda on the bits that are particularly dirty, then either mix a couple of capfuls of white vinegar into half a bucket of water and mop away. Rinse afterwards with hot water. The vinegar smell will only last a short time, but it works a treat.

If the floor is REALLY dirty, use ammonia and water and leave the room for half an hour til the smell goes away.

I would say I use more than a couple of capfuls of vinegar...more like 1/4 cup for a 1/2 a bucket.
