Which serves better food - Luk Yu teahouse or City Hall? Have some friends visiting and priority would be taste. Aware each place has its own charm in terms of ambience. Also anyone knows what time Maxim's City Hall opens?

i just went to maxim's city hall and it opened at 11am on saturday. huge crowd outside but no need to go early... everyone just sort of runs in and grabs a table when the doors open.

It depends what kind of food you are after.
If for dum sum, Maxim's City Hall would have more varieties than Luk Yu. Maxim's City Hall is touristy
Luk Yu is good for ambience and ala carte dishes. They have limited dim sum menu.

I think Mon-Sat, Maxim's open at 11am, and on Sunday's at 9am. If you are there when the doors first open, they'll let you walk in and grab a table. If you are there when it's full house, then they will start giving out numbers. It's a huge place but I wouldn't call it touristy. The locals are there in great numbers. They definitely have a great variety of YUMMY dim sum and if you want to order specific stuff, you can ask for the English menu. We've always taken our visiting guests to Maxim's and they've all enjoyed the food there. Can't comment on Luk Yu as I've not been there.

Definitely City Hall. Luk Yu has a nicer setting but City Hall has the better tasting dim sum.
