anyone know where I can get it repaired apart from the Apple service centre? It is out of warranty

dunno - how can I tell if the battery has died? I thought you could change the battery of a normal iPod. Is this not the case for a nano?

My understanding is that iPod nano batteries can be replaced but require some soldering skills.

even if the battery is dead it should work when connected to a power source though?
