Hi all,
following the christmas times, I m looking to buy a HDTV .. but comparing the prices of tvs in HK to US or Europe, or even Japan, I find them to be extremely high
50 inches tv is around 50kHKD, which is up to 3 times the price of those other regions !
Does anybody know where to buy a HDTV for a reasonable price ? I am not too picky about it but I wouldn t want to pay through the nose for no reason

I think if you visit shops like Fortress or Broadway you will find a large range of LCD and Plasma tv's. You could certainly pay 50k if you'd like for a top of the line Sony or Samsung with full HD in that size... but a non-brand name or not 'full' HD could be found for as little at 10k... I think this is the best time to buy in HK actually as with the very low US $ and no 'sales' taxes the currency conversion versus the Euro, Cdn, Aussie dollar makes the same tv much cheaper. For me, I know the same tv would be almost twice as much after currency change and taxes in Canada...

!?! 50 k!?! We bought our 42" LG 1080p at Fortress for 17k.
In my experience HK electronics are pretty cheap. US is somewhat cheaper but Europe is not.

hi guys, thanks for your answer, unfortunately I have to say that I think you are mistaken. I have been looking around far beyond broadway and fortress and you can get up to 15% discount from those 2 shops' display price, but let me give you an example. I have checked with hong kong friends of mine who are also well versed in to HD electronics etc... they confirm that US is much much cheaper

Well, it would seem there is a bit of a jump above 42". US is cheaper because of greater competition and a weak dollar.

No, really? I was just giving an example. But you're right. My price example doesn't seem so applicable. Seems the difference doesn't scale up and HK prices 42-52 make a huge jump compared to US ones.
Have you been in the stores? You can't really use the web for comparison like in the US. I've noticed the prices in the brick and mortar store tend to be quite different.
My suggestion is to see what they have on special. Our 42" was 7k off due a promotion. There were promotions on basically all sizes.
