We would like to move the kitchen from its existing location to a nearby bedroom. (for bigger space) Some experts say this shouldn't be a problem at all but some cast their doubts. Does anyone have any experience in this? We wouldn't want any leakages a couple of years later!

You can do it, shouldn't be a problem. All they have to do is to buried all the pipings into the walls extending to the nears exsisting drainage and water supply. As far as for gas, you will need the gas company to do a hook up to the new location. As this is properly the gretest difficulty you will face, I suggested you confirmed with the gas company first before having contractors start the work...message me if you want details on how's it is done... I had mine done 2 years ago...

Having renovated 4 kitchens we have some experience. Bayliner1901 is correct. Plumbing is the biggest issue. If the plumbing is worked out the rest is, while not easy, at least not unsurmountably difficult. Having said that, no kitchen plumbing is ever as hard as bathroom plumbing since you don't have to deal with water hitting a floor (much).
- Make a good plan drawing. It's easier to hash things out on paper than in wood and plaster. Make little cutouts of your units and move them around your plan until you get it right. This is much easier than redrawing (the same trick works for seating guests at a wedding btw).
- No battle plan survives contact with the enemy. In other words, unexpected stuff will happen. Don't be so married to your initial plan that you can't change it. Be flexible while remembering your initial design ideas.
- Make a time and money budget. Once you have the time and money figures, add 50% to each. I'm not kidding. Even the most wildly pessimistic initial estimates will in the end be too optimistic..
