Oasis have stopped you being able to select the UK site from HK - i rang them and they confirmed this. Anyone know a way round this?
I often book flights for my parents and i want to make the most of the uk offers!!
btw i think this is outrageous and i can only think its bcse its cheaper from the Uk to HKG than vice versa.

This might work if they are doing it the cheapskate way. I am assuming you are running XP:
- Control Panel
- Regional Settings.
- Set your locale to UK instead of HK.
If they are using DNS records that won't work. But you can use a surfing anonymizer (google it) to make it seem as if you are accessing the site from the UK.
Price discrimination is annoying but not illegal. This practice is the same as cars costing differently in different countries.

i tried this but no luck and also via google but still goes to Hk site. I've never heard of an airline restricting websites like this, and has really put me off them

Well, 10 years ago price discrimination was easy. Now it's a bit harder. But you can still break it with an anomymizer.

this practise is not uncommon for the travel industry. both airlines and hotels sometimes make special offers available only to specific countries, to try and gain market share from that particular geographical region.
are you trying to book an offer that is only available online, or would you be able to book it via a different channel, e.g. directly over the phone or via a travel agent (based in london)? just a thought. can't think of any other way around it.

thanks i'll try this - i dont think its the membership as i was not logged in and delted all my cookies etc. I dont mind that the prices are different on the HKG-LHR route - but i want to book LHR-HKG quite legitimately for UK passengers. Every other airline i can do this on - CX,VS, ANZ and BA for example - i guess thats what i'll have to use. It just annoys me that Oasis feel its OK to restrict which websites i see!!!!

So what happens if you're in neither location - say Macau or USA? Then can you take advantage of UK deals? I wonder...
Pricing discrimination is common, but I think making it so obvious is a bit cheeky - usually consumers are aware so these measures aren't takenen!
