US Electrical appliances

I have been given a Kitchen Aid mixer for Xmas but only problem is that its from the US and voltage and hertz are different and dangerous if used here. Does anyone know of anywhere to get it converted to be usable in HK and how much this would be likely to cost?

Many thanks

I wouldn't say "dangerous". You need a transformer though. However mixers tend to be in the 800+ watt range and a transformer would be rather large.

Some of the more expensive units have modular power supplies and you could conceivably find a 230 volt spare part that a qualified technician could install.

I would recommend selling your mixer to someone who is moving to the us and getting a local model.

Thank you. We contacted the kitchen aid reps here and were advised to get a transformer by one but not another. Anyway we now have an enormous transformer and I will wear some rubber gloves and shoes before trying it out! thanks for the response

Make sure your transformer is not enclosed. They tend to get hot.
