I have the in-laws coming over from the US for their first visit to HK a couple of days before CNY starts. As we have only been in HK for a short time we are not sure what to expect at this time of year. We would like to take them to the night markets i.e. Temple St/Cat Street, etc and it would also be great if we could check out some of the festivities, preferably at night time when the wee one is in bed.
Do the markets genereally shut down at this time, and also can anyone recommend any events (or any website with info about CNY events) worth attending? We are in NT near Tai Po so I was hoping for something fairly local. Many thanks.

The flower markets for lunar new year are open for the few days leading up to the new year. Can be viewed at night time, but be warned, there are huge crowds.
