Bars for grownups?

Does HK have any sophisticated, elegant bars? Members only clubs perhaps? More Dior, less Bossini? The idea of mingling over drinks with friends is pleasant enough. The clientele at LKF and Wan Chai is decidedly not.

This past weekend, friends invited me to LKF -- my first, and hopefully last visit. In less than one hour, I was groped by one man, whacked in the head by the flailing arms of another, had a camera unceremoniously shoved in my privates, and was pushed down the stairs by some poor working girl upon whose "zone" I had apparently encroached.

Amazingly, the evening still had not achieved its coup de gras. The clear highlight was a glass of badly flung beer hitting me full in the face as it missed its intended victim. I approached the woman who had done the flinging, expecting a heartfelt apology. Among a certain set, I would have expected a gracious offer to replace my blouse.

I was not among that set.

The girl appeared to be a western flight attendant, i.e. replacing the blouse would have meant a month's wages. To help her save face, I suggested she pay for the dry cleaning. She assailed me with such vulgar language and incoherent screeching I gave up the scene entirely.

So where does one go for a lovely evening of drinks and music while avoiding the working girls, flight attendants and the ilk of men who pursue them?

I'm no expert but perhaps Wyndham Street (close to the escalator) would be a bit more civilized.

Agree - the Wyndam St crowd is very upscale and 'civilized'.

Riceman - I have to agree. My post was deleted from the above and all I had said was that I was wondering how one looks like a western flight attendant??? Surely that is not offensive or sarcastic, merely an observation (and a genuine question) arising from the original post.

NZlawyergirl, I read your comment before it was deleted and, I must say, I thought exactly the same thing as you.
