Hi all
Was wondering if anyone has stayed at this hotel before and what room type did you stay in? ie Kinabalu wing or Tanjung wing. We are confirmed for Easter staying in the Kinabalu wing deluxe room but after reading their website the Tanjung wing looks just as nice.
Your thoughts please
Cheers

You should look at Shangri-La Rasa Ria also. I was also looking at Shangri-La Tanjung Aru but ended up at the Rasa Ria instead. Loved it there. The resort was great. The spa was great. The room was nice and big. I think they do diving trips as well but I'm not sure. They also have animal rescue and sanctuary there with baby Orang Utans. Just check out the Shangri-La website.
Hope this helps!

definitely recommend Shangrila Rasa Ria. Was completely relaxed/rejuvenated after a week there with hubby and son (who loved the Orangutan Sanctuary)

Hi scytran
I stayed at Tanjung Aru and chose it over the Rasa Ria as it had a town nearby and I do like exploring the area around me. I will say out of all the hotels I have stayed it, this hotel I enjoyed the most. The recreational staff were fantastic with my older daughter who signed up for every activity possible! The kids playroom was fantastic and the babysitters we used were great too. This may not be information you need since you dont mention children.
Our room was fantastic although I would say I was really annoyed the lady at Guest Relations who tried to get us to upgrade at vast cost as she said the room we booked would not be big enough for a rollaway bed and cot. After some length of negotiating my husband felt it was still too expensive and when we got to our room we found we had more than enough room!!! I was so angry I made a complaint at the end of our holiday. Check you room out before you commit to upgrading is my advice.
We stayed in Tanjung Wing which is newer and we overlooked the putting green. You will pay more for a seaview room.
Also there is a great local market selling arts/crafts but beware it closes at 6pm which we didnt learn about until we got there on closing. Its very narrow so not any good for pushchairs. There is a great seafood place called something square which we got guided to and also along the waterfront there is an area of western restaurants which made a change from the hotel.
You can go and visit the Rasa Ria as they have a daily shuttle bus where you can use the other hotel facilities and see the orangutans.
Any more questions, please ask on this thread and I will answer.
Have a wonderful holiday. I hope to go back there someday when we have explored other child friendly resorts and if anyone wants to recommend me anything please do so.
Anyway
