We are thinking of relocating to HK from Singapore. Wondered if anyone could answer a few questions.... Are rents weekly/monthly generally? How bad does the pollution really get? We have two kids, thankfully allergy free, and are looking for a change? How is HK with children (1 and 5), are school waiting lists as bad as here? Any advice greatly recieved.

Interesting that you should be thinking of moving here when so many businesses and families are moving from HK to Singapore to avoid the pollution and high education costs here.
Rents and salarys tend to be monthly here. From May - September it is hot but clear for the rest of the year I would estimate that 3/4 of the time its disgusting.
The lack of grass and flowers means that despite the pollution I don't have any of my usual allergy problems here. The Peak is considered by some to be a good place to live but allergy wise I think it would have to be a bad choice because it is damp and there is more foliage.

Pollution is very bad around the harbor, but on south side it's quite all right. Just get some air purifiers for the bedrooms.
HK is very child friendly, but having never lived in Singapore I can't compare.

Thanks for all of your advice. Yes I know people are moving from HK to Singapore, but Singapore is very sterile....also it is a move to a new company for my Husbands work. What is the average cost for International Schools, and any recommendations? Have looked at websites but not a lot of info. Thanks again.
