i am asking this on behalf of my friend. my friend who is a malaysian chinese married a hong kong person and they have been married for more than 7 years now. she found out that her husband has been having an affair but she has turned a blind eye to it. recently it has gotten worse and she is thinking of getting a divorce. but being a woman who is without job, she rely on her husband totally for pocket money every month and he gives her almost nothing to survive ( 300/month). she can't afford to go to a lawyer because she cannot afford to pay for the lawyer fees. she wants a divorce and she wants the custody of her 2 children. is there any legal aids/organisations in hong kong that can help someone like her? i believe she is eligible for government help as she holds a hong kong id. as i am a foreigner in hong kong, i do not know how the system work here. i will really appreciate if anyone can guide me or even provide telephone numbers on any organisation that can help her, including social welfare department if it is required. thank you so much. god bless you.

In HK, we have Legal Aid, which is based on the UK system, and it can be used for divorce proceedings. Custody of the children would depend on the judge.
