How many free spots are there generally? I want to get an iPhone or an iPod Touch and wondered how good it would be when connected to wifi. Can you watch streaming video on these gadets?

No "free" wifi at the moment although the government is rolling out wifi across HK and has started to install wifi on some public housing estates.



Most wifi has to be paid for, V5, PCCW, etc have monthly plan you can subscribe to.

Not quite true. Most of DB has free Wifi - plaza, beach and ferry as well as some of the restaurants at the water front.

isn't starbucks, pacific coffee and McD's free? Also shopping malls like Ocean Terminal?

Not sure - but probably true, I only tried DB on my husbands ipod touch and it worked well.
