Applying for UK passport

ORIGINAL POST

Hi all,

I am a British passport holder (living in the UK for 23 years) and the mother of a 2 week-old baby. I was wondering if anyone knows how to go about applying for a British passport for my daughter? I went to the British Consulate website but couldn't find the info. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

Just fill in the forms, which you can download off the internet, take a passport photo, white background. This is hard for such a young baby, we did one when my little one was 10 days and they told us we could lie him on the floor, take a photo from above and they would cut it to size. I'm not sure if this would work any more now the passports have changed. 2nd option, go to a fotomax or something and have the passport photo done there, as they will redo them for free if you don't like them. You have to make sure no part of the person holding the baby can be seen in the photo. Get 1 photo endorsed, take birth certificates, ID cards etc, and take them all to the British passport section at the top of supreme court rd, the passport can be posted to you in 7 days.

with #1, we took him to a photo shop that was supposedly great for taking international passport pics so we took him there to make the UK passport pic. guess what, it was rejected!

in the end my husband swaddled my son, lay him flat on his back against a white sheet and took about a million photos on our digicam and one of them was accepted by the brit high comm.

Another option is to keep baby in carseat and "build a white background" using a white cloth (a blanket works) to cover the visible carseat parts. Or you can drape your arms in white and hold baby out into the middle of the white background. Basically anything to mask support devices. ;)

Hi all,

I have printed off the forms (Application for United Kingdom Passport for applicants under 16- i hope that is the right one) and am looking at the part that says i need a countersignature. I don't know anyone who has the standing required, did anyone have problems with that part?

They're quite strict with that, we had an accountant countersign one of our applications but it wasn't accepted. If you don't know a lawyer/ teacher etc, then your best bet would be your doctor.
