just want to know is it ok for a almost 12 months old baby to have cheerio for breakfast? if not, what else to feed for this age besides baby cereal and bread and yogurt and juice? my baby is kind of fed-up with his breakfast already.

Your in-put/s is/are much appreciated.

I thought Cheerios were pretty sugary but I checked and they don't seem bad at all (http://www.cheerios.ca/en/nutrition.html). So I would say ok.

Oatmeal is a good option. You can serve it with apple sauce and milk.

Watch the juice BTW. It's pretty sugary stuff. Small portions are ok.

You can serve dinner food for breakfast if your baby is happier with that.

I give my baby (10 months) dry cheerios to eat with her fingers while I feed her weetabix mixed with milk(or formula) and fruit. She also eats toast with a spread on it or plain bread. Most of the cheerios end up on the floor but she likes to try and pick them up and it is a good skill to practice. Dinner food is also good since they don't know what should be breakfast food!

i gave my son (turns 2 in march) cheerios for breakfast after 1. before that, he would eat quakers oats but i got tired of that because i would need to cook it, hahaha! so i decided after 1 when he went onto cow's milk that it was cold milk with weetbix or cheerios!

axptguy38, ya iw as thinking of cheerio is sugary but when i read the ingredients and also a friend in the states told me she started her two girls from 9 months with cheerio so i will surely try this for his b/f. yes, ruth & kim 11, i do serve his dinner food as b/f, example eggs or pumkin soup or potatoes but surely will go more from now on :) Haha, Wheelymate, i gave my son Q/oats too but also tried of cooking every morning so give the gerber oatscereal mixed with fruit juice or fresh puree fruits! Never know weetbix is also allow for below one, heaven!

Thanks so much for everyone's input.

I don't give "cheerios", i buy OATIOS from health shops. Exactly the same minus the sugar.

if you've introduced your baby to whole eggs and cows milk you could mix half a glass of milk and one whole egg, pour into a cup and steam (make sure you cover it well during steaming) - caramel custard minus the caramel. or if baby likes sweet stuff you can caramelise a wee bit of sugar in the bowl that you will use to steam.

can be done night befroe fore cold custard

or

warm is good as well specially now that the weather is cold.

oh, i gave oatios as a snack before he turned one...

but couldn't afford it for a daily breakfast, if you see the amount my boy eats and organic food prices in sg is pretty scary!

yes, agree, if everything goes organic, soon he will be running out of $$ food to eat! hubby said eatable food are all organic :)

Thank you once again for your input. I will surely get cheerio for his b/fast and also will try oatios to see the different.

Here are some ideas that I give my child for breakfast. She usually has #1 though, mixed with some cheerios.

1. Oatmeal (for sure can be mixed with a variety of things)

2. Bagel/Toast (cut into little pieces)

3. Eggos (these aren't bad either, but not the overly sweet ones)

4. Macaroni (in soup if you wish)

5. Fresh bananas

6. Yogurt

7. Steamed buns (chinese kinds with nothing inside)

Just some ideas you can try! If anyone has other ideas, let me know, it's nice to mix things up for them.

Lots of good ideas around. We too try and give a mixture (and we only feed the kids organic which does add to the $$), My personal view is breakfast is a really important meal for kids so ours usually have a huge feed (although it take some time!) and by 12 months they were both eating a combination of the following:

scrambled eggs on toast

baked beans and toast

porridge with natural yoghurt and a bit of honey

fruit with any of the above

smoothies (my kids like to make them with us)

yoghurt and chopped fruit

cereal, our have the organic varieties, but we check sugar content as they can have a lot of salt and sugar

hard boiled egg with toast cut so they can dip

hi, we cook tinned organic baked beans from PNS. I try not to do them too often as they have quite a lot of sugar, but the kids love them!

We also do omlette with cheese and sometimes ham inside

after seeing this thread, i like to try Weetabix for my 9 mth old bub. i've checked out weetabix in supermarket, but am not sure which one to buy. does it come with one specially formulated for baby? or do i just buy one with title weetabix? is it blue box?

if someone is from singapore, do you know whether ntuc sells them?

I live in Singapore before and I am sure NTUC sells them. after learning from parents here, i have given my 11 months old almost all that are written. I gave him weetabix yesterday morning, he had a poo before we went out and another poo when we were out :) quite a lot of work but he was totally fine and asking for lunch before his normal lunch time and wooble down a big plate of rice congee and a bottle of 6oz milk!!

Yes, like cara mentioned, nothing special for babies, just regular breakfast cereal

Just for everyone's FYI if you don't already know, you can get mini weetbix at Wellcome and PNS in the regular breakfast cereal section. They are easier to handle the regular weetbix. Comes in two flavours: honey and nuts or raisins and nuts. At Taste, you can get the weetabix in the shape of stars.
