Have anyone ever gotten their amount deducted from their account for unsuccessful completion of cash Withdrawal from other bank's ATM? Well, I had just this week in Shenzhen using my HSBC card withdrawing from a Citibank ATM at King Glory mall, 10 mins walk from the Border. With normally, ATM cash machine with holds the card while transaction is in progress, but this particular one, it request you to submit your card and withdraw prior to process. Anyhow, so I did and proceeded with the transaction with withdraw request for 1,500 RMB. I waited for about 15 seconds and a message popped up displaying " Communication error/delay, please try again later". so I left and gone to a HengSeng Bank ATM to try, and during this transaction, I realized the first attempt had deducted the 1,500 from my account.... Can anyone please advise what I can do to recover the money?

Doesn't sound like a scam if the ATM machine reported communication error...
I had the same happen to me once using my HSBC card in a Citibank ATM machine in HK....it deducted money from my a/c but didn't give me the cash.
Call up HSBC and they should be able to sort it -- they told me I'd get the money after the investigation, but I kicked up a fuss and got it back quite quickly.

Happened to me at HSBC using my UBS card, said transaction was cancelled but amount was deducted. Started to panic called my bank in Switzerland where I was told HSBC had noted the error already and the money had been credited back to my account. Good luck.

I already submitted a request for investigation to HSBC, but was told it will take 45-60 days to complete... I proceeded with my own investigation with contacting Citibank China, and they got back to me in 24 hours. Their findings were that print out report show I did try to use the ATM but due to communication error, the transaction was canceled, no amount was deducted... I don't know why it would take 45 days? I hope it is not working days..... Can't understand why HSBC would deduct the amount when transaction was canceled??? Real Scam!!!!
