just had a check, i THINK in the Uk we call Pastrami, Salt Beef... so Is Pastrami in a Reuben??

Hi, are you thinking of the salt beef sandwich at Selfridges, London?
Nothing similar in HK, as far as I can tell.
Reuben = corned beef (as in US type, not UK spam) - which is like salt beef; thousand island dressing; sauerkraut (preserved Polish cabbage; cheese; all on toasted rye bread. If you like the salt beef sandwich at Selfridges, you will probably like Reubens - but it's not the same thing.
Pastrami = corned beef (US) with a border of pepper kernels and spices. Can also be found in Pastrami.
To complete this treatise... You can also get a NY-style Reuben, which is the Reuben above except that the sauerkraut is replaced with coleslaw.
All are to-die-for good, if you ask me ;)

Yes, the Selfridges Salt beef Sandwich is EXACTLY what i am looking for, have been having crazy cravings for one (no im not pregnant!), In fact im craving one so badly Im thinking of opening a sandwich shop! I cant believe they dont have them in HK.

For those of you who care, Salt beef in uk = CORNED BEEF in US.
So the Jewish Community Centre sells them, cant order on a Sat, so in the week I will find out if my quest is over....

Thanks for the tip. Let me know if the Jewish CC salt beef is any good. If not, you might also want to try the posh delis at Eats, Pacific Place and CitySuper at IFC - they had pretty good chorizo and pastrami the last time I was there, so they may have salt beef/corned beef too.
Alternatively, just drag a kilo or two back from Selfridges the next time you are back in the UK!
