We have many entries in our data base but thought that Cecile Garnst-Berg, a Norwegian lady (tel.2984-2722)(www.happyjelliyfish.com) has an interesting approach to learning Cantonese by having cooking course, pub crawls, outings. Berlitz offers Cantonese lessons (tel.2826-9223)(www.berlitz.com.hk) as does the Chinese University in Shatin (tel.2609-7000)(www.cuhk.edu.hk). There is also a Don Chow in Sai Kung who seems to be very helpful (tel. 2792-2837;9127-9116). As a newcomer to HK, get in touch with us should you have any further queries of any sort.

I took the three courses at TST YMCA and can recommend the class with a teacher named Andrew. It's enough that you'll be able to talk like a toddler, if you study really hard, after three courses (one year).

I take classes through ISS (International Social Services or something), subsidised by the government. The class is HKD100 for 50 hours. It's pretty good, I'm surprised how much I have actually learned.

Classes held at the Southorn Building (Wanchai) on Sundays. The next segment begins in April, I think.

6/F, Southorn Centre, 130 Hennessy Road,

Wanchai, Hong Kong

at the start of the year I enrolled & paid a HK$1500 deposit at PACIFIC LANGUAGE http://www.pacificlanguage.com/ - I never got my lessons, & am still trying to get my deposit back, which they refuse to give me … unless I pay the balance & take their lessons. They advertise a ‘free demo; however, I was refused this too. Actually, I was offered it AFTER I had paid my deposit. It’s a long story (fundamentally, I think the school is inconsistent in its communication and ‘conditions / policies’, & unprofessional, & I didn’t want to continue any further relationship with them). Can provide more information if interested. I am now with EDC who are reasonably priced & ok http://www.hkedc.com/

Whichever school you select, I’d suggest visiting the school 1st … lesson I learnt!
