It seems my job is not stable any more. My boss has insisted me to list all deals I have done. And close the files if I finished. He also asked other colleagues to close the deal files in which I was involved. He gave this order since last Dec. and he reminded us again if he is free.
The department I am working is in losing profit position. Once he mentioned it is good to close this department.
I am not afraid of packing all these stuffs, actually I have been looking for new jobs since last Dec. is it a signal to fire me ? But he said the reason for closing files is for good management.

Seems a signal. What department are you in and what is your job scope?

Since Hong Kong is a small space and it may be not convenient to explore. But what I can say is that the business of department is in a very small quantity, the profit my boss earns is equalate to my salary or less. it is not in certain position for him to bring in business.

In the business point of view, if I were your boss, I would close the business as well. But who knows, he may have other resources where he has channeled cash to. Bear in mind, he has other overhead to bear to, ie. office rental fees, taxes, expenses and so on.

I agree with you Mrs Smith
Ask you boss outright that as you get the impression that your job position is not secure, should you be looking for other positions. If he's honourable and fair he'll give you a straight answer.

I don't think asking the boss is the right approach - East Asians don't like confrontations. In Japan, the hint is usually given by moving the employee's desk next to the toilet. Hong Kong is not Japan, but those are hints to start looking for a new job. No one will blame you if you start looking - the East Asian way is to drop hints, hope employees leave on their own, rather than have to fire someone and cause him/her to lose face.
