I don't think you can train them to sing. But you can surely nurture it. We've been sending our boy to a programme run by Just Juniors: Music Together and he attends a playgroup with lots of singing since 12 months. On top of mum and dad continually singing. He's started singing recently, not just repeating words. He's now picking up tones of varying ranges.
