What's the intended use? Email/surfing, media, photoshopping, video editing, gaming?

Cyber-Net in the WCCC are pretty good. They have nice packages and you can choose which case you want. You can trust them to do the right thing. They'll put it together and install the O/S for you.

My recommendations for a general purpose computer. These are more or less in line with the Cyber-Net packages anyway. They are pretty general and definitely not the "geekiest"/most expensive:

- Intel Core 2 Duo

- 2 or more gigs of memory

- Asus motherboard

- Coolermaster case.

- 120 gb or bigger hard drive

- Sapphire or Asus video card with 256 megs or more of memory (yes, I know there are plenty of good brands and makes, but I don't want to go into details)

- 400w or bigger power supply (assuming you only have one hard drive and one video chip). Delta "server power" is pricy but quieter than most

- Zalman cooler for CPU. And some sort of cheap fan controller to make sure it doesn't make lots of noise

- Windows Vista Home Premium

Also small nitpick. When you say hard drive you are referring to the case with computer components inside. The hard drive is but one component inside the case.
