Agree with Pine - everything gets moldy in storage unless it is humidity controlled. We've stored two times for several months and each time was a disaster despite using storage places with air con and dehumidifier. I think they definitely turned off the machines after hours. By the way, the worst mover and storage facility I found on this site. Be very careful of which company you go with and don't always believe their references.

Tip #1 - Don't store in plastic during spring and summer. Our mover wrapped all of our items in plastic and even with dessicant sachets this created the perfect environment for mold to grow. We ended up throwing out most of our clothing, books, and having to refinish our leather furniture - paid by ourselves as mold damage is specifically excluded from most insurance policies.

Tip #2 - Make sure whatever you store has been thoroughly cleaned and dried as mold thrives on organic matter and moisture.
