Childcare course??

I have put this question in a few forums as I wasn't really sure where I should put it....so apologies if you have read it a few times.

I have just got a new helper (almost 2 months) and we are happy with how she is doing in general although we are finding it hard with the kids. I am a stay at home mum and predominantly do all the childcare. Although there are obviously times where I am out with one and she needs to be with the other child. What I am finding hard is that she seems to have no raport with the kids and is struggling to foster any type of relationship with them. I know this will take time but I don't think it will ever be achieved by just giving it time!

The lack of relationship makes it really difficult in the house as there is a lot of tension whenever she tries to do anything for the kids. I don't really think she is a 'natural' with children (which I have found very surprising as most Filipino's I have met are extremely maternal). I would love to try and help this situation by sending her to a course to give her some confidence with kids. I believe there is one in Deepwater Bay that is run for helpers? Does anyone know the name or number for this?

Or are there any other suggestions about what I can do to help improve the situation. I definately don't want to replace my helper but do need to come up with some way to improve the situation.

Thanks

We do run a childcare course at the hospital and you can get details from the website or by calling our health education manager, Debbie, on 28490357.

Although we do cover topics such as the importance of play and practical childcare I am not sure that it would solve the root of your problem. It does however put you both on the same page regarding expectations and gives her an oppertunity to mix with other helpers with small children to share experiences and get suggestions on things they have done that has helped.
