pampers premium...that's what the hospitals in SG use as well.

I used pampers premium for my baby. Consumed 1 pack of diapers (36 pcs per pack) in the first week, then two packs per week from 2nd week onwards. Don't get too much though as newborns grow very fast and need to use Size S in a few weeks.

if your wife is breastfeeding, it'll be endless in the beginning as most babies will poop before, during and after a feed...not fun when it's 3am in the morning.
but still, i wouldn't suggest stocking up too many packs of newborn sizes as babies outgrow them very quickly. so buy enough for the first week and see how that goes.

when you are home, best is to use cotton wool and water to reduce occurance of nappy rash...
if not, i used/use johnson and johnson...pigeon is not bad too.

i used pampers until someone gave two packs of huggies including wipes too. I think the two brands area fine almost the same for new borns. as the go older, pamper is still the first choice especially at night. Yes, b/feeding is endless changing. I used two packs per week when i b/f my boy now one year old.
congratulations. so nice to see dad get so much involve in helping the wife getting things done. bravo!

Hi I used Pampers premium for the first two months! I heard there's two types of pampers premium, one made in Japan and one made in Thailand. They are of different price too, in Singapore. I bought the one from Japan (more expensive though). I bought Huggies wipe too. However, I agree with Wheelymate. I ended up using just cotton and water until bub keeps flipping to his tummy. So i save a lot of cost, and I think it's most allergy-free with just water. I used cotton balls (not cotton pads) to wipe, and note that there's different type of cotton balls, some softer than other. In Australia, I bought Homebrand from TArget which is cheap and really soft. In singapore, I bought from Sheng Song, the softtest as compare to NTUC, Watson, Giant, etc.

We used huggies (what Matilda uses) and switched to cloth nappies later.
Be sure you have a ParkNShop delivery account (sign up free online) it helps a lot when in need of nappies!!
With our first, there were days we used 20 nappies, no kidding!! We would change, he woudl poo, we would change, he would poo again, and so on... with our second, we were smarter to wait for the 'second/third poo' before changing hahahaha. But even so we used A LOT in the first few weeks. I would get at least 4 bags so you don't run out.
As for wipes, we started with water and cotton, but then changed to wipes and we like the unscented ones, my favourite in Hong Kong are the Kirkland Brand (if you know Costco in the USA, that is their brand), you can buy a huge case of them from Gateway in Sheung Wan. Now we are in Beijing and miss those.... When the poo is just too huge to imagine cleaning - dunk baby under the sink or the bath tap :)

yes agree with crj, when the bub is less fragile, just wash the poop off with the tap or shower....cleaner that way too!

Our #1 got this massive rash from wipes, even unscented pure natural made from free trade paper in democratic countries by overpaid hippies living in harmony with nature. So we still use ye olde washcloth and water.

I have to say that you should seriously consider the option of using cloth nappies rather than disposables. They are so much better for the environment, for your baby and for your pocket.
Some people believe that they are hassle to wash, but personally, I have found them to be far less trouble than I ever imagined them to be and the good points definitely out-weigh the bad. I rarely use disposables and feel no need to do so.
I use Easy Peasy Nappies Bumble and Tots Bots organic cotton nappies. These are both birth to potty nappies, so I only need to buy new wraps as my baby gets older, not new nappies. This saves even more money, but some people prefer to buy sized nappies that fit better at each stage.

I've just discovered a new pampers brand for new borns which I think is fab. This is my third baby and I've always preferred premium pampers over anything else - I think they are much softer and less rigid than huggies. I used huggies at the Matilda and they rubbed the hip area raw so I changed to premium pampers as soon as we got home.
The new type I mentioned are called "swaddlers" and are especially for breast fed babies. Their poos are very watery and this nappy has a kind of mesh that really keeps the poo away from the skin. Since I started using them we haven't had any sign of reddness. I get them from ParknShop at Cyberport. I'd really recommend them.

Swaddlers are indeed great but they have been around a few years. They are called "New Baby" in many markets including the UK. Swaddlers is the North American name. My guess is that the store sources them from the US somehow.

Huggies leak. Don't go there. But their wipes are fab (Natural Care? or something - the thick ones, anyway).
Easier cloth nappies (in humid HK) are the pocket type - (I use Happy Heiny brand, but don't know if you can still get them here, if not maybe Doubibou has Fuzzibuns, they're the same type) - you put a thin muslin cloth (sold in the street markets as 'baby diapers' for about $50/10. They dry really qiockly. Tots Bots are nice, but only if you have a dryer, which then sort of spoils the environmental aspects of cloth nappies.

"Huggies leak."
Agreed. The exception is "Huggies Overnites", which are the best for night time. Don't know if one can find them in HK though. I'll have to check Gateway.

Cloth diapers are wonderful. There are so many great fitting kinds these days too. After your initial investment, it's cheaper, better for the environment and often better for baby's skin as well. Have a look at the different kinds and try using one on a doll to see how they work.

We're actually very happy with huggies. What I've found is that you may need to change brands based on baby bottom shapes/size. I nannied for a family with 2 boys, both adopted, and one wore huggies and the other pampers. My daughter is mainly a huggies girl, but we switched to pampers as she got taller. The best advice we got is not to cheap out and buy cheap diapers. You get what you pay for in this case.
axptguy38, did you ever find Huggies Overnites at Gateway or anywhere else?

Nope, and we miss them greatly. Our 14 month old sleeps through the night and her diaper can be well soaked in the morning. If she has an early morning BM we're basically toast. :( The Overnites could take it all and ask for more.
I tried some Japanese Pampers with an "all nite" description on the package. Not very accurate description. :(

not Taste in Stanley i dont think - axptguy, have you checked? we have the same problem with night nappies - I actuall buy UK made ones (Pampers active) from Bumps to Babes - the only ones that work so far. But now am trying to switch to pull -up (as babes would not stay put after bath to get nappies on them!) - and they are all terrible!

Yes, and yo are correct...
Pull-ups are indeed not so well suited for night time.

Actually sun_t has a point above, different brands for different babies. With our daughter both Pampers and Huggies leaked like a sieve, however changing to Nepia changed that and she's used them since. Both my sons were different!

Totally agree that diaper decision depends on baby's shape -- we hated both Huggies and Pampers here, but really liked Mamy Poko; but then in the US, ended up in Pampers [totally different shape than the ones they sell here -- go figure] after trying several other brands. Considered cloth diapers, but couldn't convince Ayi not to hand wash them, so finally caved. Can't stand the smell of the J&J wipes -- always made me think she had some kind of infection; either Huggies or water/washcloth.
