Kangaroo Island - online booking or local recommendations

Heading for Aus next week and want to spend a night in Kangaroo Island with the family.

There seems to be a shortage of sites that can cater for a family of 4 and I have no local contacts with whom I can check out suitable B&B or hotel options.

We basically want to be close to the animals - seems like Penneshaw is the place for penguins and Kingscote for Pelicans, but that's all I can glean from websites

Would be gratfeul for any insight and recommendations and whether I shoud book from here or wait until I get to Adelaide (which is a couple of days before I want to go to KI)
