Never stayed in the hotel but have been to the roof top restaurant (Dome) a couple of times - best view of Bangkok.

Not sure on the timing from the airport however it is on the far end of Sathorn near the river (minutes from Shangrila) and Sathorn can get jammed at times... if you are arriving BKK before evening rush hour shouldnt be too much of a problem. But if you try to get down Sathorn on a friday night 530-8 you might want to bring a book to read...

Lebua is located at the western end of Silom road, close to Peninsula, Mandarin Oriental, Holiday Inn Silom etc etc. It sits right next to the highway loop. Travel time between old airport to Lebua takes some 45 minutes to an hour. No idea for the new one.

The development is part hotel part serviced apartments. Some suites in the hotel level offer multi-rooms attached with living room and kitchen. If you could muster a brunch of friends to share the cost the deal would be extra sweet.

View on the top floor bar and restaurant is stunning. Think dress code is required - shorts, sneakers and flipflops are out.

Hi rl06,

thanks for your reply. We ve booked Deluxe suite with balcony so it should be good hopefully. so should wear fancy clothes to the top floor restaurant for dinning or drinking then. lol. how much would that be for a taxi from new airport to lebua? i heard its different with hk taxi, they dont use metre charge in thai????? hope they re not dodgy.

The moment you tuck urself safely in the taxi, door closed, you should expect the meter started counting by the taxi driver; otherwise things would seem rotten - he's got his mind gearing up for ripping you off.

When in doubt, say "meter, meter" and point to the counter. By then he should do the right thing. If not, or he mumbles whatever, say stop and really get ALL your stuff out of the taxi and switch to another one.

A business contact of mine points out that the more buddhist ornaments a taxi driver kept on his dashboard, the less likely he got his ride fare rip off. :)

Taking taxi between airport and major hotel shouldnt be much of a problem. Having the concierge to arrange taxi for you would lessen chance of hassle.

Just dug up a travel guide book - taxi to and from airport to bkk city should cost Baht 250~350 and around 1 hr traveling time. Be vigilant and avoid commuter traffic hrs - if u think getting struck in hk traffic jam is bad, multiply that hardship by 2+ hrs you'll get the picture there.

As for Lebua, you can always ask for a tour of their rooms and fear not raising the question of demanding one with a better view / atmosphere.

Enjoy!
