Rent has gone up quite a bit in the last 6 months. I would think it should be to your landlord's favor to end the lease early. You can point this out to him, and allow him to show the apartment on appointments.
Also, it is quite common for international relocation packages to take care of the lease breaking for you. So check with your relocation manager if you have one.
In the worst case, I really doubt even the hardest nutcase landlord will bother suing you in court for 2 months worth of rent. Even if he did, you certainly will not face jail. you would have only broken a contract, not law. If he does sue you, the judge will find in his favor, and order you to pay. If that happens, just pay. (just 2 months, not a big deal.) there would be no record against you for HK reentry in any case.
