We would love to go to Australia at Easter and i'm so confused i do'nt know where to go. I have kids of 9 and 11 who are excited to see all things Australian! I of course have never been to Australia. I think that we would like to go to Brisbane or Sydney. What would be better. Is there anyone that can advise me? I would be really grateful for any advice

if you go with whole family, would suggest you go visit Gold coast, QLD. they have seaworld and beacutiful beaches, and aussie zoo.

The Gold Coast is great for families in general. If you have time consider also travelling south to Byron Bay or North to Noosa for something a little more beautiful and natural. Either are a few hours drive each way.

Sydney is also great if you stay near the beach (Manly, Bondi etc.) and use that as you base to explore the city & surrounds (Blue Mountains are a great day or overnight trip).

Weather at Easter time will be better in Queensland compared to Sydney. Remember it is a busy holiday time in Australia, so you may have trouble with reservations.

Brisbane has less to offer kids compared with Goldcoast (1 hour south of Brisbane by car) or Sunshine Coast (1 hour north of Brisbane)

Goldcoast (Surfers paradise) has Sea world, Dreamworld, Warner Bros Movie World and Wet N Wild (water park). All good theme parks with big rides, need a full day for each. Also Currumbin Bird sanctuary and beaches. Used to be able to bungy jump near Seaworld - not sure if still there. Can drive inland for more scenery. Kids will love themeparks, but not necessarily seeing alot of Australiana. I think the outback horse show is on there as well.

Australia Zoo is 2 hours away.

Sunshine coast. Nicer beaches than Goldcoast (personally) Mooloolaba has a lovely beach. Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin's Australia Zoo is about 30min drive away. Can pat Koalas and Kangaroos, see crocodile show and bird show there. No big ride theme parks here - about 2 hour drive down to Goldcoast parks - so long day. Can go to Fraser Island for the day - 4 wheel drive trip to see ship wrecks, dingos, rainforrest, lakes - very picturesque.

Also consider Whitsundays if you want to see the Barrier reef. You can take a day cruise out to the reef and stay on a big pontoon, snorkle, scuba, underwater sub ride etc. Whitehaven beach is magnificent with large lizards walking along the beach. Hamilton island has range of accomodation options and easy access to reef.

Can fly into Airlie beach airport.

Check out the Queensland Tourism website for lots of good info.

Just to confuse things further - Perth is also lovely!
