Has anyone noticed that their whites get progressively "greyer" when washed in the HK hard water? When I lived on HK island, my laundry was okay but now that I have moved to Lantau, I find my whites have gotten quite grey, especially the elastic bits of the whites.
Is there anything I can add to the laundry to help combat this hard water problem?
Thanks.

Typically you can use a little bleach with your whites. Not too much though or the cloth will tear easily.

I find that oxy "stuff" does the trick. There are a number of different brands that you can find in the laundry aisle and I normally soak clothes that need brightening or have stains in a bucket with a scoop of the oxy powder added. I guess you can add to your wash and maybe stop the wash early in cycle to let it soak for a bit.

I thought that HK water was soft. So soft that appliances never get furred up. But yes, I do find that whites go grey. Maybe because they are not hung in the sun to dry as they tend to be in some other places?

Water in HK is very soft. But thread started did say he/she lives on Lantau.

Oops, maybe it isnt a hard/soft water problem? But I found that the greying problem definitely started when we moved from HK Island to Lantau.
I have tried the Oxy stuff (both soaking and added to the wash) as well as those Color Catcher sheets, but no use so far. :(
