I want a MPF

So I am exempt from the MPF as I just arrived in Hong Kong and I'm on a one year work visa. But I WANT to pay into it and I want my employer to pay into it as well. I don't want to be exempt.

I have heard that the employer can voluntarily pay into it but am having difficulty finding resources to back this up. Does anyone have any direct sources of information? I have scoured the HK MPF website.

Secondly, in my contract it says that my employer will pay the MPF and that I will have to. But they have never had a brand new employee before. Do you think it is possible that I can use the contract to get my employer to make contrubutions into my MPF?

Thank you

My husband and I are both on a 2 year contract (currently with a 1 year work visa that will need to be renewed each year) and we both have MPF paid by the company. I was under the impression it was compulsory, like superannuation.

Was it your company that told you that you are exempt? They may be trying to avoid paying you!?

Our payroll dept has stated that it is not compulsory for the company nor the employee to contribute to MPF for the first 12 months if the employee is an Expat. After the 12 month mark then it is compulsory to do so.

After reading the above I think I will try to find out more.
