Cloth Nappies

Hi

I am curious about cloth nappies vs. disposable. Has anyone out there used a cloth system then given up and gone back to disposables?

Are there any cloth 'systems' that are better than others?

I will be a full time mum (no help) with my first baby in July. Would I be making life easier or harder with a cloth system?

By the way, I've never changed a nappy in my life!

A bit harder, but it's better for your baby (no chemicals) and for the environment (much less landfill). I use pocket-type nappies, www.doubibou.com has them , and you can stuff them w/ the muslin squares that are sold on the street market baby clothes stalls for cheap-cheap - very quick drying which is important in HK.

for sure there are some moms who have tried cloth and gone back to disposable just like many moms tried breastfeeding and gave up..

Just depends on your own motivations.. and the information you have before hand! But cloth can be as easy or as complicated as you want it to be.. a bit like everything in parenting!

i don't think there is any 'better' system than another, but just 'one' fitting better one's needs and preferences.. Pockets are nice here because they dry quicker but are more prone to detergent build-up issues or leaking (compared to fitted for instance).

though you still have some time ahead, there is actually a workshop on cloth nappies coming Wednesday at the YWCA. This might be a good start to look at the subject!

I used combined cloth and disposable (cloth at home, disposable when we went out or on holidays). The ones I used (Motherease from the US) were too big to use for the first couple of months, but after that no problems and we used them till our daughter was potty trained.
