Baby will let you know, just like baby did when dropping from 3 to 2 naps.

Our son was very 'late' compared to our friends... he still had his morning nap until 20/21 months. But every time we tried to stop it he was grumpy and had a HUGE HUGE lunchtime nap... but then he started to always be awake at that time and it just ended naturally.

Our daugther, now 11 months, just stopped her afternoon nap and is down to two a day, but she is super tired at bedtime and grumpy... but she just refuses that nap, so I think she will adjust by having a longer lunchtime nap - she is just at that stage where it is a few days without afternoon nap, a few days with... I recall that stopping the morning nap for my son was similar, so I think this is a normal pattern.

See what your baby is telling you :)

there will be a transition period...baby will be harder to settle during that particular nap but will also have trouble getting through to the next sleep time without it. e.g. when mine dropped the morning nap, he was packed off for lunchtime nap by 11.30/11.45am and i had to give him lunch alot earlier. he also dropped this nap very early before he was 1....yikes.

but eventually they get used to it, just tweak the routine slightly to help him get through for the moment.

oh yes, on top of the above signs...say you are on a routine and baby is having taking longer and longer to fall asleep for that nap and when he finally falls asleep, he's gone way past the usual nap time and is too refreshed to sleep the next nap...that's always sign, at least in our case!

yep - they will do it themselves pretty much - same as with Wheelymate - ours dropped it before 1. 11 months or so I think.

Typically 2->1 is between 12 and 18 months. But as mentioned above all babies are different.

You may have to move the remaining nap to an earlier time and also extend it.

You will get some grumpiness. ;)

it was painful to drop that morning nap for good....it was essentially my shower time....:)

i always thought that babies were supposed to drop the morning nap and keep the afternoon one. Mine, at 13 months, has dropped the afternoon one and sleeps longer in the morning nap...

but then he's down by 7 - 7.30 which means, free time in thevening to talk to hubby, go to gym.
