We have gathered Sergei, Bill, Warren, Steve J, Beavis, Butthead and a few other luminaries around the boardroom table this morning to discuss a new utility on AX related to travel.
This new section will be for OUR members to provide tips and advice on travel destinations in the region (yes we know this has been done before BUT those other sites often are for backpackers or people who think travel is about packages that include the all you can eat poolside buffet with free cold Bud.... and those are not who WE are). We are essentially planning to do what Ferrari did for the wheel...
So we start with the most popular destinations in Asia.
Then we have decided to go with the following sections for each:

Satellite Map (Sergei offered to power it)

Sounds like a great idea Ed, how about adding a section for families re family friendly, or family specific tips?
Maybe the option to search via type of holiday preferred: Adventure, beach, family etc?

Ed, brilliant idea - maybe something along the lines of Kids friendly/things for kids etc? you know how many questions in this respect there normally are on this forum.
under it people can say whether direct flight, hotel easy to get to, kids activities in the area, etc etc?

Thanks for the input. We will initially focus on the more popular destinations for families in the region but perhaps will look at expanding to adventure travel later.
In the hotels section we will allow people to recommend hotels that are family friendly etc...
We are also planning to indicate when the person posting a comment registered with us - obviously there will be a correlation between length of use of our site and credibility of a recommendation... I've used too many Advisory sites where it looks like the hotel GM wrote the recommendation eh...

It would be great if you could focus on destinations requiring minimum travel time maximum enjoyment. The think I find hardest about travelling from here is the flight times are terrible ie: Koh Samui - leave HK at midday so have to take day off work....come back in morning so have to take day off work. Where are the evening flight out...evening flight back places.

Agreed with you Ed. I'm tired of reading travel books for "the masses". That may make me an elitist expat b*stard but there you go.
