I have a load of pics .. around 30 GB .. i would like to buy an external drive just for Pictures . .



I would want to buy the top quality brand hard drive ..

If you want a small one La Cie is not bad.


Whatever the enclosures say, there are only like 4-5 actual manufacturers of drives. The only only I have consistently heard dodgy stuff about is Maxtor.

Several friends and I have used Samsung drives with no problems. But of course individual experience may vary.


To be fair, I wouldn't worry much about differences. Most drives nowadays are very reliable. And of course even the most nominally reliable drive can crash tomorrow.

I have a 40GB Samsung one that's been great - once I ran a virus checker on it. It came with a virus on it, which was easily picked up by AVG as soon as I connected it via the USB.


I would recommend that whatever one you buy to run a virus scanner on it first
