..as much as used too...he seems to not be interested in 2 out of 7 feeds
his schedule is
7am -BF not interested anymore
9 - BF or180ml then sleep for 30 mins
11.30 ml then sleep for 2 hours or so
2.30 -BF not interested anymore
5 - 180ml (usually but just tryting now and he only had 80 and isnt interested
6.30 - 180-240ml
10.30pm - 180ml
he sleeps well from 7 to 7am (with the 10.30pm quick feed!)
he is on the small side - prob about 7kgs now...when we try to feed him he just bites down the bottle - or my nipple - even without teeth it hurts...
is this normal - been like this for a few days now - is still a happy little chappy though....
going to start him on solids in a week or so....but would like to get his milk intake up as i feel is isnt enough...any advise??

My son is six months next week (about 7.7kg), and I've already started him on some solids. His milk intake varies between 110ml and 160ml every four hours. My doula told me that some babies are just not interested in milk after a while, and sounds like it's a good indication that he's ready for something new for the palette. If he's biting down a lot on things, he could be teething as well. Don't be pressured to up his intake, particularly if he's fighting it right now. Also, see what the doctor says when you go in for his shots at six months. Babies change everyday...he might just get his appetite back tomorrow =)

As mentioned it might be teething. Not to worry. The only thing to watch out for is dehydration. Unless he starts a proper hunger strike he should be fine.

Breastfed babies self regulate their intake. The average daily intake for a breastfed baby is around 750 ml. A normal well baby is one who is growing, meeting developmental milestones and following along a percentile curve. Introducing solids at 6 months with continued breastfeeding is recommended by most health organizations.

Try only bf for a bit. It could be the bottle nipple is confusing him. And do the usual teething remedies...homeopathic chamomile is great for this.

I forgot to mention that babies go through big variations. They can eat very little for a few weeks, and then for a few days they seem to never get enough. Quite normal if a bit startling the first time.
