Making windows safe for kittens?

Hi, I have two lovely babies from the wonderful charity HK Alley Cats - (if you ever want to adopt go to them).

Anyway, I want to make my windows cat proof so I can open them, as now i dont as Im scared they will fall.

I have looked into a few options but most are really ugly. I have standard HK windows, you know a hook that you lift up to open and a handle in the middle you can push. They are green.

Has anyone had a protection thing fitted so you can get air (smog) in your house whilst not worrying about your precious ones?

If so PLEASE let me know.

THANKS!

thanks Cara, sounds great.

If there are screws at the top to stop children escaping how about the bottom? Is that a risk? My cats are so inquisitive!

Does anyone know where you can get such nets? THANKS SO MUCH!

I don't suppose you have time to post a pic of them, cara? I am looking for mosquito screens but haven't managed to describe what I want very well to the ppl that make them. A photo would help. Thank you!

We have the same windows. There are several different types of mosquito screens that can be custom made so you may want to consider the roller type or the push-open type that locks as cats cannot open these. Don't know where you live but in Tai Po and in Sai Kung there are many shops making these screens and they cost about $400 - $700 depending on window size.

You can find 11 shops in the Yellow Pages by looking in the category "Anti-Insect Roller Screens" at
