My husband and I have been invited to a colleague's wedding. The ceremony is at a cathedral before noon, then the reception is in the evening at a hotel. For dress, the invitation only indicates "lounge suit". What does this mean for a woman? I was thinking a business suit/skirt at the cathedral and a c*cktail dress at the reception, but wondered if that would be too dressy.

not trying to be fresh, but wouldn't the best way to find out is to ask the colleague? as you may already know, weddings in hk are much less 'dressy' than in other countries, however that is slowly changing in the recent years.
I went to a wedding dinner once and was overdressed, everyone thought I was the bridesmaid, not cool!

Hi there, if you are interested in what I wore for my brother's wedding (at the afternoon reception), let me know. I could send you a picture of the dress :) Enjoy!

fablate, would love to see the photo.
Strawberry, the truth is the "colleague" is a woman at my husband's office who constantly flirts with him, somewhat inappropriately. I'm hoping that her wedding will put a stop to this, especially if she meets me in person. So asking her what to wear is really not an option. Originally I wasn't even invited to the wedding, only my husband's name is on the invitation. But he insisted that I be invited. It's all been very uncomfortable.
And I've actually wondered if something more has been going on. I inadvertently read a string of emails between them he left up on my computer. Nothing sexual, but definitely flirtatious on both sides. I confronted him and he said they are just good friends, but don't know what to believe. They were sharing pretty personal things on religion and God and dreams that he rarely confides in me.
This wedding is going to be from hell.

Well for the Chinese wedding thing ... I'm not sure about the church ceremony but the reception, you'd be surprised how casual people dress to a formal occasion. But I think it's better to be (a bit) over dressed than under dressed. I wore a c*cktail dress to the last Chinese wedding reception I went to. I was actually really over dressed compared to most of the people there but didn't feel weird or anything. I wouldn't go for a floor length or long dress tho.. From what I saw at the reception ... only the brides, mothers of the bride and groom and families wore long dresses.
Hope this helps..

I guess it all depends where the hotel is?
If I were you, make sure you look fantastic and show that you're really happy!
Go and get your hair and makeup done and wear something sexy and bright.
Just remember, she'll be really dolled up..... understandably.
Good luck!
