Children who do not eat meat

My 4 year old daughter does not like meat (beef, chicken and pork) at all, but she loves fish, vegetables and fruit. What do you suggest to compromise the nuitritions that she cldnt get from meat? Supplements, toddler formula etc? Many thanks for your advice.

I have a friend whose whole family is vegetarian and I know she makes a lot of her food with lentils, green peas (mung), split yellow peas etc. They are full of Calcium, Iron and B-vitamins.

Nothing wrong with fish and it contains pretty much all the nutrients you need from the meat. In any case she's only 4. Give her "tasting size" meat portions. Perhaps chicken is best since it is mild. Large portions of a new food tend to intimidate kids.


Also as happychick says there are plenty of non-meat foods with the required nutrients.


Finally, a children's multivitamin is a good idea.

Thank you for both answers. axptguy38, do you have experience in choosing multivitamins for children? There are so many (basically just dont know which one is good) to choose from and I found it overwhelming.

The only two we've used (for over 2 years) are the classic "Flintstones" and the ones in the Dinosaur shaped container. Both seem to have what is needed. You can always call your pediatrician's office. I'm sure the nurses have a good recommendation.


Under 2 years we've used Tri-Visol, then Poly-Visol with a dropper.

We use multivitamins with our two year old, from a spoon.


One we buy at Matilda, the other we buy at HealthGate, I forgot the names. But do some google research on key ingredients to look for, etc...
