How to go about setting up a charity in HK

Hi all.

The one charity that has always resonated with me, and that I donate to every year, is Child's Play (http://www.childsplaycharity.org/). This is an organization set up by video gamers who were tired of the "video games train killers" image some people propagate. They wanted to do something truly "good".

Before you roll your eyes, read on a bit. Child's Play gives video games and DVDs to children's hospitals. Imagine your child has cancer and needs to spend hours, days or months in the hospital. Being bored out of their skulls is a fact of life for such kids. The easy distraction of a video game or Disney movie can mean a lot for sick kids, and perhaps also for their siblings who have to spend hours in a waiting room every week while big sister has chemo.

Child's Play raised well over one million US dollars last year, including monies from companies like Microsoft, HP, Sony and Blizzard.

I was wondering if anyone here thinks there is a possibility to set up Child's Play in Hong Kong. Two things are needed:

- A hospital willing to take donations.

- People willing to donate.

For the latter, I am less worried. But if any of you have contacts at children's hospitals/clinics/wards, feel free to send me a pm or post in this thread. Also if anyone knows of any legal hurdles, I would like to know.

Typically the only work the hospital needs to do is unpack the gifts and figure out how to use them.
