Schools in Manila

Hi,


My husband is thinking of a move to Manila but I know NOTHING about the international school options there. My daughter is start at an ESF school in August (1st grade).


Anyone got any advice or info to share?

International school in manila is very expensive, if you try to convert it in HK$ its even more expensive there. I got a friend who moved to Manila(her hubby's company relocate them there)and they have a son who starts primary that year, and she told me they looked into an International School there and she was shocked of the price, its like HK$9K/month. I guess it was the American international. We also tried looking for a house at Brentville Subdivison in Laguna (near Manila) last time because they have their own international school (UK based curriculum) the school fee is 30K pesos/month(HK$6K)


If you are a native filipino, or your hubby...I am sure he knows a lot of middle class schools there in manila for your kids, where you will pay maybe 30K pesos per school year. its just too hard to relocate there if you are both expats, expect of rip offs everywhere you go.

"Expect rip offs everywhere you go" --- that's a tad harsh! Manila has had its share of bad press but it is not as bad as you put it.


Agree though that international schools are not cheap and they are not necessarily the best schools (in terms of academic excellence). Good local schools would cost you anywhere from PHP30k per year to close to PHP100k, and most of them are "exclusive" (i.e. exclusive for boys only or for girls only) Catholic schools. The school year starts in June, ends in March the following year. My sister was contemplating on sending my nephew to one of the international schools but eventually decided on one of the top local schools after talking to the school administrators in these schools and reviewing the school curriculum. I can send you some options (i.e. list of local schools you might want to consider), if you're interested.

Hi, I would really appreciate any info on schools in Manilla. We are moving there next year and will be looking at settling in Brentville, or near to it. My daughter will be 8 years old then. Thanks, Chris
