not the end of the world if he didn't take to rice cereal and carrots.

so many other stuff to try, the introduction of solids really varies with every child, a real trial and error.

something sweet might help....sweet potatoes, fruits like bananas, etc

good luck. don't give up!

and oh yes, at 6 months, it's really just an introduction, not meant to replace any milk feeds, so just getting him to taste new stuff will do for now, he doesn't have to eat very much.

Some babies aren't ready at 6 months. Some start at 4, some at 6, some at 8. Wait 2-3 weeks and try again.

- Make sure the portion is small. Many babies are intimidated by a full plate. We mostly gave a few spoons only the first time a new food was introduced.

- Even if they make a face but swallow, often they will love it the next time. Familiarity with the taste perhaps.

- Try a variety of foods. Our #1 loved sweet potato puree. Our #2 loves steamed and mashed cauliflower. My friend's daughter loved parsnip puree. Boiled and "food processed" dried plums are a favorite (looks just like poo).

- Don't give up.

agree sweet potato and pumpkin are always a winner - on mix them together. another one pumpkin or sweet potato puree and add a bit of apple or pear puree to it.

Be careful with giving just fruits as some babies LOVE the sweet stuff and will refuse the savory ones. Mine loved garlic mashed potatoes and avocado! Make sure the carrot is well pureed.

qwerty123, my problem with my 6.5 months boy is completely the opposite of yours. He loves solid so much (any kind now - potato, zucchini, apple, carrot etc) that he is refusing to drink his milk. I am quite worried since he still needs about 20 oz per day but currently is only having max 16 oz. Now, I am giving him solid twice a day (at 11 am and 6:30 pm). Good luck with your boy - looks like different kid has different preference.

Mita5chome, we have had a bit of the same problem. The only solution was to serve milk first, when baby is hungry, and not have any other food in sight. As soon as any other food was laid out, the desire for milk vanished.
