Hi - I use a compaq laptop, the specs are really good and i've got heaps of free space - yesterday my laptop froze 2 times (this has never happened before) and today it restarted itself - as it did this I got the "blue screen" with some error msg. Am i right in thinking that this "blue screen" indicates hardware problems, not software problems? I run music performance software through my computer, I cannot afford my my computer to be having issues or restart during a performance!
Virus scans show nothing, the computer is defraged every week, and the hardrive is checked for errors weekly. I performed both these operations yesterday after the computer froze and nothing came up.
Does anyone have any advice - can someone suggest which business i should take it to to get it looked at?
Any help would be much appreciated.

You can contact Thomas Kei from Protech 1/F Wan Chai Computer Centre 130 Hennessy Road- 3421 1010 - we have been using this company for about 2 years now to supply all our office computers and laptops - and getting our equipment serviced. Thomas will give you a honest opinion. If you decide to visit their shop let him know John from AsiaXPAT sent you!!
Btw...give him a call first to make sure of his shop number...he is not in Protech but their sister shop across the hall.

Some mixed advice above. If it happens again, note down the error message and Google it. At the very least it should point you in the right direction - hardware or software.
Holding down F8 on startup will give you access to a range of boot options, from nornal boot to the infamous 'safe mode' to the suggested 'last known config'. This would suggest itself as am option if your trouble had begun immediately or soon after you had made some significant system change - updated something, loaded new software etc.
