We purchased tickets with our HSBC Visa.
Does anyone know whether the HSBC or OASIS will refund part or whole amount?

We have done the same - purchased 4 tickets with our Standard Chartered AMEX and just really not too sure whether we are going to get refunded!!!! Was going to try Standard Chartered first and go from there..

not exactly airline tickets but I have previsouly bought concert tickets with a credit card and the company selling them went out of business before they actually sent them to us - so the credit card company did pay it all back - so yes, CC is your way forward i think.

Check your credit card's added bonuses too - some offer some sort of travel insurance when you pay for flights/hotels/packages using their cards.

Under consumer protection rules set by Visa & MasterCard, the cardholder has every right to demand the payment from their card issuer if the merchant ( OASIS) does not render service for which they have collected advance payments. This is called a chargeback in the credit card industry and all Visa/MAstercard cardholders can chargeback citing " Service Not Rendered" reason code. Am not sure about Amex.

Not sure how HK credit cards will deal with this, but this is how my Canadian (TD visa) card is handling this.
They were familiar with the Oasis situation so no explaining was needed. I've been asked to fax our itinerary and a letter with signature and credit card number. A refund will be initiated following the return date on the itinerary.
As our return date on the itinerary is months away, I expressed concern about the amount being on my bill for months as I'm not going to pay the Oasis charges, and the fact that I had to purchase an additional 5 tickets on Cathay. They said that at this time there is nothing they can do as the airline is in liquidation and not bankrupt, and until Visa International issues a bulletin authorizing refunds, they can do nothing until the return date on my tickets. They have assured me that either way, a refund will be coming, and will include interest charges on the tickets.

TMK's bank is following the right strategy. I wouldnt be worried - he will get the refund evenutally if Oasis never comes back to life.

They called me yesterday and are processing my refund as we speak.
Faxed Oasis itinerary and HSBC card transaction details.
